Batavia Roads To Temporarily Close For Fox And Turkey Run

BATAVIA, IL — As Thanksgiving nears, Batavia runners are preparing to take to the Fox and Turkey Run course Thursday morning.

In light of the four-mile run, starting at 7:30 a.m. and ending around 10 a.m., several temporary roadblocks will be installed on the northwest side of Batavia. Intersections that will be affected are Route 31 at Houston Street, McKee Street at North Van Nortwick Avenue, North at North Van Nortwick Avenue, and North Avenue at Blackhawk Drive.

A full road closure will be in place at the intersection of Houston Street between North Island Avenue and Route 31 to accommodate both the four-mile run and one-mile youth race that start and end at the Batavia Riverwalk near the Municipal Center. Congestion is expected to last between 6-11 a.m. Thursday.

“To the extent possible, this is an “open road” event whereby event participants share the roadway with the motoring public,” police said in a news release.

Police said all impacted intersections will be staffed with public safety employees and race volunteers, who will guide drivers through when it is safe to do so.

Police are recommending drivers adjust their Thanksgiving morning travel plans according to the increased congestion on the roads.

Registration for the race can be found online.
