H.S. HOCKEY: Batavia/Notre Dame United sinks Geneseo/Livonia/Avon Lakers; United hits road after holiday | Sports

GENESEO — Batavia/Notre Dame United skated to 6-1 with a blowout win over host Geneseo/Livonia/Avon on Thursday, with United seizing a 2-0 lead after the first period and never looking back en route to an 11-0 victory.

“We played well. We played fast,” said B/ND head coach Marc Staley. “We had a full week of preparation which really helped. Geneseo played a great game on Tuesday night, beating Amherst, 4-3. I think they were a bit tired tonight. We probably caught them on an off night.”

Senior Ronin Hofmaster paced United with a hat trick, adding to his three-goal effort with a couple of assists. Jameson Motyka chipped in a couple of tallies and a couple of helpers, while sophomore Sam Pies scored his first varsirty goal to increase United’s lead during the second period, and then added his second varsity goal during the third period. Brennen Pedersen also scored his first varsity goal for B/ND. Brady Johnson potted a goal and added an assist, Cooper Hamilton registered a couple of assists and sophomore goaltender Rhys Tanner secured his first varsity shut out, and his third win of the season.

United will enjoy a three-day holiday break before heading east to take part in the Albany Academy Holiday Tournament, beginning on Thursday.

“Like a lot of teams, we are battling some sinus infections and some colds and flu,” said Staley. “I think this break comes at a good time.”

BND will head to Albany where it will face off against Albany Academy at 5 p.m. on Thursday, before taking on Bethlehem Central at 10 a.m. on Friday.

“It’s always fun to travel as a team,” added Staley. “I’m looking forward to getting out of our section and facing some competition out east.”

Albany Academy stands at 1-4-1 through 6 games, while Bethlehem is a perfect 7-0, outscoring its opponents 32-7.

Geneseo/Livonia/Avon is now 3-6.
