A man charged with sexually assaulting a woman in an abandoned hotel in WA’s Midwest at the weekend has pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
Key points:
- Norman Trevor Gilbert was charged over an alleged sexual assault on a woman at Geraldton’s Batavia Motor Inn
- He pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual penetration without consent
- The magistrate adjourned a bail application until January
Norman Trevor Gilbert, 34, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with two counts of sexual penetration without consent.
He appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Wednesday and entered not guilty pleas to both charges.
His lawyer was instructed to make a bail application so he could reside with his sister in Spalding.
But prosecutor Sergeant Beau Jones said police had concerns for the alleged assault victim’s safety.
He told the court Mr Gilbert had told investigators he would arrange for someone to “bash” the woman after his arrest.
Magistrate Evan Shackleton adjourned the bail application until Mr Gilbert’s next appearance in January.
